Celebrate Family Literacy Day with a hands-on cooking-themed program at Orangeville Public Library! Families will build a colourful Jamaican-inspired soup-in-a-jar while practicing reading, measuring, and sequencing skills. Plus, research a new family recipe and build a list during your visit. No cooking or eating on site. All supplies provided. Best for ages 5–12 with a caregiver. Registration required; space is limited.
*Allergen Notice: Please note, there will be dried beans, rice, spices and various food items that will be used (but not consumed) during this session.
Family Literacy Day takes place nationally on January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. This year we celebrate the 2026 theme "Make mealtime family learning time" with this family friendly soup-in-a-jar activity. Preparing for mealtime is a fun (and tasty) way for families to learn together! For more resources and information on Family Literacy Day checkout the ABC Life Literacy Canada website.
