Crime Writing Experts Panel: Author Showcase
Join us to hear from members of the Crime Writers of Canada as they share about their writing and the process. Experts in the field of crime writing, these authors are local to Southern Ontario and ready to share their varied stories and tips. From political crime thrillers to paranormal novels and noir mystery, there is something for everyone in this author showcase.

Author Lineup:
Jim McDonald - Jim's writing experience covers journalism, theater, a completed novel, a second novel in progress, and a published book of short stories Smash Palace.
Peter Thomas Pontsa - His political crime thriller, Outfoxed: An Inspector William Fox Adventure, is an international mystery filled with action, suspense, adventure, and romance.
Angela van Breemen - Past Life's Revenge, is a suspenseful crime thriller with a twist of spiritualism that solves cold cases using the paranormal.
Hyacinthe M. Miller - In Kenora Reinvented, a former soccer mom is shoved by a series of life events into having to start over in middle age. After many rejections and rookie mistakes, she ends up wining as a private investigator and in second-chance romance.
Kris Purdy - Writing myster fiction drawing inspiration from real people, without exposing their identities or getting too personal.
Alexis Stefanovich-Thomson - Writes a wide variety of crime and crime- adjacent fiction. His first novel, The Road to Heaven, a noir mystery set in Toronto during the 60s, was recently released by Dundurn Press.

Take part in this interactive program that has something for everyone. Sing songs, listen to stories and rhymes, and play games that encourage literacy and learning.
Talking, singing, reading and playing are the key skills and fun ways to help your child get ready to read. Developing early literacy skills makes it easier for children to learn to read once they begin school, and helps to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning. No registration is required.
Recommended for age 5 and under. This is a drop-in program.
This program is also offered on Thursdays at the Mill Street location.

Give your child a jumpstart to a love of reading by engaging in fun, interactive activities with your baby. This is a drop-in program for newborns to 18 months.
There will be time to socialize with other new parents after the program.
Every Child Ready to Read is an early childhood literacy program for children from birth to age five. Library staff will demonstrate ways to help children get ready to read, incorporating five activities: talking, singing, reading, writing and playing.
This program is also offered on Fridays 10:30 a.m. at the Alder Street location.

Become better world citizens and make a difference in our community.
Children and youth will meet every Wednesday from October 2 to November 20 for one hour.
The Social Justice Club is a chance for youth to connect with one another, discuss issues facing our society (i.e. poverty, bullying, climate change, inequity), all while learning how to build a more just society.
Through fun activities, participants will learn how to:
1. Collaborate with likeminded youth.
2. Develop the capacity to become a better world citizen.
3. Lead purposeful and fulfilling lives.
Ages 7 to 12 will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. Please register in advance to attend.
Healthy snacks may be provided for this group after school, please let the facilitator know if a participant has any allergies to avoid.
Presented in partnership with the Puslinch Assembly of Bahai's.
Teen volunteers ages 15 to 17 are needed to help facilitate the club. Please contact teens@orangeville.ca

Join Tanis for fun activities and to learn about volunteer opportunities at the library. This month TAG is meeting with Raghav Patel, Makerspace Specialist, to learn about plans for the library's new Makerspace and to get input on what you would like to see.
The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) provides an opportunity for local youth to share their ideas about the library's teen programs, services and collection. Members can earn high school community service volunteer hours.
