Every Child Ready to Read Storytime

10:30 AM | Mill Street Library, 1 Mill Street

Take part in this interactive program that has something for everyone. Sing songs, listen to stories and rhymes, and play games that encourage literacy and learning.

Talking, singing, reading and playing are the key skills and fun ways to help your child get ready to read. Developing early literacy skills makes it easier for children to learn to read once they begin school, and helps to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning. No registration is required.

Recommended for age 5 and under. This is a drop-in program.

This program is also offered on Tuesdays at the Alder Library.

Experts in the Library: Dyslexia - Rethinking Reading Differences

7:00 PM | 1 Mill Street, Orangeville

Join teacher, author and educational consultant Linda Kent as she explains why dyslexia is not a lack of intelligence but a different way of learning - one that often leads to great strength in areas of creativity, problem solving, and big picture thinking.

Registration is required to attend. If the registration form is unavailable, please email libraryprograms@orangeville.ca to add your name to the attendance list.

Give your child a jumpstart to a love of reading by engaging in fun, interactive activities with your baby. This is a drop-in program for newborns to 18 months.

There will be time to socialize with other new parents after the program.

Every Child Ready to Read is an early childhood literacy program for children from birth to age five. Library staff will demonstrate ways to help children get ready to read, incorporating five activities: talking, singing, reading, writing and playing.

This program is also offered on Wednesday, 1 p.m. at the Mill Library.

Blues and Jazz - Harmonica Workshop with Al Lerman

12:00 PM | Mill Street Library, 1 Mill Street

Al will be talking about the ins and outs of blues harmonica playing. He will demonstrate some different styles and techniques he learned from the masters; talk about achieving a good natural tone; explain about playing in major and minor keys; and will touch on how to play in several keys on one harmonica. He will also be taking questions from the audience and will try to tailor the workshop to those specific needs.

31 May
Blues and Jazz Workshop - Blues Trivia with Ken Wallis

1:30 PM | Mill Street Library, 1 Mill Street

Do you know your blues? Come test your knowledge with “Who’s The Blues Artist?” Trivia.  Ken Wallis, host of BluesSource Canada and President of The Escarpment Blues Society presents a fun-filled challenge of identifying who the musician is.  Ken will play ten seconds of a blues tune and you’ll have to identify the musician and write down the name.  You may only hear an intro to a song, a few seconds of a vocal, or a top-notch instrumental solo.  Prizes will be up for grabs for the most correct answers.

31 May
